Minimum floor slope in a terrace

Minimum floor slope in a terrace

New postby wagurto on Thu May 17, 2018 8:59 am

Is there a minimum floor slope to drain rain water in Florida? I now the minimum roof slop is 1/4" : 12"
but what about tiled roof terraces?
thanks

Depends on the system installed below it.

The floor surface, to drain properly, should be a minimum of 1/8" per foot slope, with a maximum slope of 1/4" per foot (more than 1/4" per foot and the floor is sloped enough to make walking on it a potential issue).

The critical aspect is: what is the system below the roof top terrace floor and what does it require?

Other than standing water being an issue on a "flat" (true "flat" no slope floor) and its likelihood for mildew growth and being slippery when wet (and even more slippery when mildewed and wet), the tile should be able to take the water on it. And, no, I am not recommending a "flat" (no slope) floor as there will be standing water issues (slippery, mildew growth, etc), but concrete, tile, and the like can take basically being flat and water draining off/drying out on it ...

... it is what is under the tile/other floor surface that matters:
- What is its intended design drainage system?
- What is ts intended drainage slope within the system?
- Does it have a minimum (and maximum) slope of the floor surface which gets installed on top of it?
