Diagonal Bracing Gable Roof Ends

Diagonal Bracing Gable Roof Ends

New postby Hank S on Wed Dec 15, 2010 10:26 pm

I inspected a stick-built 2x6 rafter framed gable roof today and was looking for any code reference regarding a requirement for diagonal bracing at the gable ends. Louvered vents are located at the ends. I live in North GA.

Georgia uses the 2006 IRC with Georgia amendments, but there are no amendments relating to gable ends or gable end bracing.

Gable end bracing is not spelled out in the IRC, although I believe it should be as it is a critical factor under many loading conditions.

Thanks Jerry. Yes, I referenced the GA Amendments along with the Mandatory Codes for the state and could not come up with anything.
