We have a restaurant (A2) connected to a hotel (R2). The entry doors to the restaurant are directly off of the hotel lobby. Do these entry doors to the restaurant need to be fire rated? Thanks.

There is no simple answer, but ...

The following is from the 2006 IBC as that is still the most widely adopted edition, soon, though, the 2009 IBC may be the most widely adopted edition and there may be differences to the 2009, some differences are just re-numbering, some differences may be significant.

a) Are the two occupancies sprinklered or not sprinklered? (1 hour separation for sprinklered, 2 hour separation for not sprinklered)

b) Is the restaurant small enough to be an accessory occupancy? (no separation required for between the main occupancy and the accessory occupancy)

c) The rating of the doors would be based on the rating of the separation between the two occupancies, and if it meets the allowances for an accessory occupancy and is allowed to be non-separated, then no rating of the doors is required.

Not sure if that information helped, but there is not enough information given to offer much more than the above.
