Colorado has a requirement that all homes with a fuel fired appliance or attached garage must have a carbon monoxide detector within 15' outside of any room lawfully used for sleeping. We have a bedroom that contains a gas fireplace. Would it be better to place the CO detector inside the bedroom in this case? Thanks.

You should place one inside that bedroom and one outside that bedroom.

Codes are minimum standards not to do less than, there is no reason not to do more than code requires for increased safety.

Code is the least safe you ate legally allowed to do it. That is not a high standard to strive for, is it?
