Egress - Garage - New Mexico

Egress - Garage - New Mexico

New postby Builder on Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:44 am

Dear Codeman ... what are the requirements for egress from a garage? We have a three car garage with a side door exit. The house is entered from the garage though the laundry room. So there are two garage doors; one double, one single with the side door. We have glass block windows for lighting into the garage. Do we meet code?

Thank you!

Garages do not have the same egress, lighting, or heating/cooling/ventilation requirements as living spaces have as garages are not considered to be habitable space.

A garage is not required to have any windows, and the only door could be the overhead vehicle door.

A garage is basically a utility storage space where vehicles and other items are stored.
