Is there a code requirement for the use of levered doors vs door knobs for exterior unit entry doors in a condo complex?

Depends on when it was built, where it was built, and what was in effect at the time it was built.

The Handicap Accessibility code may or may not have applied, and Fair Housing may or may not have been applicable.

One thing with Fair Housing might be that it was adaptable, and being able to replace the door entrance set with a lever set, which is easy to do, would make it adaptable. Backing support for grab bars may well not have even been a consideration for an older building.

In a building with no elevator, the bottom floor front units (if there are units which do not go all the way through) would be the likely ones to be Handicap Accessible if that was applicable at the time.

A building with an elevator makes all units accessible to the handicapped.
