Jerry, do you know about the time when the SEP was first required to be double grounded?
Thanks

Hi Marc,

I suspect that by "SEP" you mean "service equipment panel", i.e., the service equipment, but I am not sure what you mean by being "double grounded".

Hey Jerry, Yes the service panel. What I was wondering was, when was it required to have two sources of ground I.E., uffer, ground rod, water supply etc...? Around what year was this necessary?
Thanks

Hi Marc,

That question is a lot more complex than you probably could imagine ... and the answer is ever more complicated ... so I will reduce the answer down to the basics as follows:
- 1975 - The NEC stressed using the underground water pipe if available, and gave some options when/if/but/etc about the underground water pipe.
- 1978 - The NEC basically stated that any electrode which was available was to be used.

Hopefully that information helps.
