Can Liquidtite flex conduit terminate behind the wall without a proper box?

Hi Richard,

Liquidtight Flexible Nonmetallic Conduit: Type LFNC is a type of raceway and is required to be installed in accordance with the sections covering the installation of raceways.

This is from the 2005 NEC which is applicable in Florida. (underlining and bold are mine)
- 300.12 Mechanical Continuity — Raceways and Cables.
- - Metal or nonmetallic raceways, cable armors, and cable sheaths shall be continuous between cabinets, boxes, fittings, or other enclosures or outlets.
- - - Exception: Short sections of raceways used to provide support or protection of cable assemblies from physical damage shall not be required to be mechanically continuous.

The exception does not apply to your described installation, thus, no, the liquidtite flexible non-metallic conduit is not allowed to terminate within a wall, it is required to terminate into a proper box with a proper fitting designed, listed and labeled for that use.
