I don't find, in the 2017 NEC, where GFCI protection is required for CCTV (communication) systems and wiring per se.

There may be conditions where the receptacle(s) that the equipment is plugged into may require GFCI protection.

Are you, possibly, thinking of a "fault protection device" as defined in 830.2?
