    Masonry chimney question

New postby Marc M on Wed Sep 02, 2009 11:42 pm

Masonry chimneys within a dwelling? I know about the combustible set backs however. Its a room addition built around the chimney, and permitted.

    Hi Marc,

Most masonry chimney I've seen were interior chimneys, they were located within the interior of the dwelling.

As long as the clearances to combustible materials are maintained there are no problems.

My main concerns with a room addition built around the masonry chimney, with respect to the masonry chimney, would be how the framing was done around the chimney and how it was flashed so as not to leak.

Well, at least they are more common out there than 8-tracks.
