AC CONDENSER UNIT, roof run-off

AC CONDENSER UNIT, roof run-off

New postby RICHARD TAN on Fri Apr 10, 2009 10:45 am

Hi Jerry,

AC condenser unit under eaves, valley or kick out flashing. Is there a code or manufacturer guideline to prevent excessive rain water runoff into the ac condenser?

Hi Richard,

Yes, the code requires the mechanical equipment and appliances to be installed in accordance with their installation instructions and the installation instructions state not to install it under roof runoff.

The easy solution, then, is to install a 10 foot long piece of gutter centered above the condenser unit as that allows the roof runoff to be diverted to each side of the condenser unit.
