30" MwaveOven over 36" cooktop?

30" MwaveOven over 36" cooktop?

New postby Bruce Ramsey on Wed Dec 26, 2012 6:00 pm

Client contacted me and wants to put a 30" Mwave oven over a 36" wide cooktop. 36" wide Mwave ovens are too expensive and he wants to buy a regular size oven. Less $

M1504.1 and M1505.1 seem to indicate that if the oven is Listed and labeled for that purpose it would be allowed. It also seems that if the Mwave Oven is at least 24 inches above the cooktop it would be Ok. Not likley to find a 30" oven that says it is OK to put over a 36" cooktop. Sides would get hot, covered in grease, not finished for appearance sake on side, etc.

Can you point to any other cites that would allow the client to install an undersized Mwave oven over a super sized cooktop?

Thanks

Bruce,

According to the installation instructions I found, installing a 30" wide microwave over a 36" wide range (at least based on this installation instruction) is okay:
- (place cursor over link, right click, select 'Open in new window') http://products.geappliances.com/Market ... 0641-2.pdf

Scroll down to page 7, see the 'NOTES' section at the lower right, specifically the second and third notes.

According to those notes, not only is this allowed, it also tells the installer what to do when installing the 30" microwave over a 36" range.
