Pool Fence

I know that there is a requirement for a 4ft fence with a self latching gate around pools. My question is about WHERE the fence is needed. Does that fence need to be directly around the pool/decking or can a fenced back yard substitute? There is a rear door that leads to the fenced in back yard and pool.

That depends on on WHERE you are asking about ... i.e., in Florida ... the answer is that a yard fence is not allowed as the pool safety barrier fence unless that yard fence is around the perimeter of the pool, however, in most other states that is not the case.

In most other areas, the only requirement for "where" the barrier is located in relation to the pool is 'around the pool', which could include a "yard fence" too.

The requirements for the barrier, while simple, are also complex in their details.
