Drainage Vent placement

Hello,

I'm considering doing an addition to my home which will include a master BR and bath. the home currently only has one bathroom. I will be doing most of the work myself. The current structure is a 2 story colonial, the proposed addition would be only one story on the east side of the home. My question is the placement of the through the roof sewer vent. There are 3 windows on the existing home on the side of the proposed addition, all are above the proposed roof of the addition. Does the proposed vent pipe need to be both above and over 10' away from any window, or is it one or the other. I will say that the highest window in the attic, could be considered non-openable. I can get the vent 10' away from the windows, but to also be above them would mean a ridiculously tall vent.

Dave,

A plumbing vent terminal is required to terminate as follows:
- at least 10 feet horizontally from (if horizontally from or below)
- or
- at least 3 feet above

any door, operable window, or any intake opening (which includes soffit vents).

The "or" is an important part and sounds like it will make it work for you.
